Electronic Health Records

Optometry Front OfficeAt Central Florida Eye Center, P.A. we embrace any technology that will provide more efficient and better quality patient care. While you are in our office we will acquaint you with many “high tech” instruments. These instruments gather data that Dr. Gatson and Dr. Verkaik use to give you the most thorough eye examination possible. What may be even more impressive though is the technology that you don’t see! There is a complex network of computer integration in our office that allows us to create your digital electronic health record (EHR). As soon as you schedule an appointment by phone or on our web-based scheduler we begin creating your EHR. Here is a behind the scenes look at how EHR works.

When you arrive at our office for your appointment our friendly front office staff will update your contact information and health history into your EHR. Then, one of our knowledgeable clinic technicians will perform some ancillary tests. Every time you “place your chin here” or “press your forehead here” test results are being uploaded into your EHR! By the time you reach an exam room your EHR is already full of digital information. By processing all of your information digitally it speeds up the process of your exam and helps to eliminate human error from keeping paper records.

Dr. Gatson and Dr. Verkaik will perform an examination and will review your test results with you in the exam room. They can even pull up your digital images, visual field results, or laser retinal tomography images to show you. A picture is truly worth a thousand words! If there is an eye condition that may affect your systemic health then the doctor will use your EHR record to generate a letter to your primary care provider. We firmly believe that you receive better healthcare when your doctors communicate with each other! After a discussion about your test results and your visual needs, your glasses prescription will be sent to our optical department.

In our optical, our highly trained optical technicians will discuss the doctor’s recommendations with you and help you select the right frame and lenses to create the ideal optical system to meet your visual needs. They can also reference any vision plan benefits that you may have and bill your plan electronically. This will ensure that you receive the benefits to which you are entitled.
At the conclusion of your visit with us, you will once again meet with our friendly front office staff. They will use your EHR to prepare for you a personalized report about your exam and electronically process any insurance claims on your behalf. They will also be happy to schedule your next appointment so that you will receive an email reminder when it is time to see us next year!
